5 Fun Facts with Sarit Klein

Sarit Klein is in charge of making all our favorite characters on each of Netflix’s Marvel series look really good. From Daredevil and Jessica Jones to Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, she’s the makeup genius behind all those first seasons (plus the second season of Jessica Jones). We caught up with Sarit, and she shared five fun facts about herself with us.

1. I became an American citizen even before I stepped foot in the USA. 
I was born in Israel to an American mom and an Israeli dad. You automatically get citizenship if you are born abroad to a parent that is a U.S. citizen. I visited New York for the first time at the age of three months when my parents took me to visit my grandparents.

2. I was fascinated (more like obsessed) with Michael J. Fox and 80s TV shows/films when I was a teenager.    
I grew up in the 80s and loved Michael in “Family Ties” and “Back to the future”. I had pictures and magazine clippings all over my wall like you would imagine a teenager has! I was also somewhat of a film geek, so much so that I memorized most of the “Harry Met Sally” script when I was 17. I bought the video, pressed play and stop every minute to write down the dialogue (yes by hand, and yes it took many many days…). To this day, every time my brothers and I get together we act out parts of movies like Top Secret, Trading Places, and The Princess Bride.

3. I can fall asleep anywhere.
That’s a very helpful skill to have when I work long days on set. I perfected this while being in the army! I’ve also been meditating for the past seven years. I think everyone in the entertainment industry should meditate. They would have more energy and be in a better mood.

4. Makeup is my 5th career. I had 4 other careers before turning 29.
I was a flight attendant for five years, an assistant VP of Business and Development for a rural telephone company, had a very short-lived career as a Web Designer and helped build an Israeli TV station from the ground up as an Executive Assistant and Manager. Then, at the age of 29, I moved to NY to begin a career as a makeup artist.

5. I quit my first makeup job after 6 days.
When I first got to New York I got a job selling makeup in Il- Makiage, a makeup company who had a retail store in Manhattan. I loved their makeup, but after day one I knew retail wasn’t for me. All I wanted to do was read scripts and create characters! I gave it a few more days but my gut feeling stayed the same so I followed it, quit, looked on Mandy.com and applied for my first film. The rest is history!
