5 Anticipated YA Fantasy & Sci-fi Books for Fall 2017

As summer comes to an end and your TBR tower dwindles to a short stack, it’s time to start taking note of all the amazing YA books headed our way. After spending a summer reading contemporary, I am eager to dive back into my two favorite genres: fantasy and sci-fi. Get ready to rebuild those TBR towers with these five YA fantasy and sci-fi books coming in fall 2017!

 
 

Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo
Release date: August 29

A story of young Diana before she becomes the legendary Wonder Woman. Diana doesn’t know she is putting the world in grave danger when she chooses to save Alia Keralis, a human with a dark secret. Alia is destined to bring about chaos and ruin to the world as a Warbringer. Diana and Alia will have to forge an alliance to defeat their enemies and protect Alia from being used as a weapon.

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas
Release date: September 5

As with any Sarah J. Maas book, this is an automatic must-read. Maas has said this book to be volume 2 of book 5 in the Throne of Glass series. The events in Tower of Dawn run parallel to the story of Empire of Storms. Tower of Dawn is the story of Chaol Westfall as he journeys to the south to gain allies for his friends in the coming war and find a healer that will help him recover from his injuries.

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie Dao
Release date: October 10

This debut by Julie Dao is an East Asian retelling of The Evil Queen. It’s a dark fantasy that explores the story of anti-heroine, Xifeng. It is foretold that Xifeng will be the Empress of Feng Lu when she accepts the dark magic within her. Xifeng covets the power that comes with the throne, but also has a desire to control her own destiny. What will Xifeng decide in the battle between fate and choice?

Warcross by Marie Lu
Release date: September 12

A sci-fi thriller about a dangerously addictive and popular virtual reality game called Warcross. The story follows Emika Chen as she is unexpectedly thrown into this gaming world as a spy for the game’s creator, Hideo Tanaka. As Emika delves deep into this world, she discovers a security threat that will rock the very foundation of the Warcross empire.

Renegades by Marissa Meyer
Release date: November 7

The Renegades are a group of humans with extraordinary abilities. They have brought peace to their world. However, not everyone views them as the saviors of society. Nova is one of those people and is out for vengeance. But when she meets a Renegade named Adrian, will she remain loyal to her cause?
