Younger Recap 2.11: Exposed

Younger‘s episode tonight was quite a doozy. From dress-up (or dressing down, depending on how you look at it) to shocking moments, Younger is ramping up it’s last few episodes of season 2.

After sharing the video of Thad banging a girl in his work bathroom with Maggie, Liza announces that she needs to tell Kelsey the truth if Thad doesn’t. Then, she says she also wants to tell Caitlin the truth about her job. Maggie warns her against both of those, but Liza doesn’t seem to budge. Fingers crossed that she sticks to her guns.

At work, Liza is in full Crown of Kings (cough, Game of Thrones spoof) book release-mode. Emperical is planning a big Times Square release event featuring the characters (played by models/actors) and the author, Edward L.L. Moore, and the throne/crown. Of course, Moore’s version of Princess Pam-Pam is difficult to cast…until Moore sees Liza enter the room. Moore immediately pronounces Liza as Princess Pam-Pam. Naturally, this includes getting invited to a small dinner later that night with Diana, Charles, and Moore at which Moore makes a gross-old-man sexual comments to Liza. In exchange for telling her the ending of the series, Moore comments, “If I tell you, I’ll have to eat you”. Gross.

Meanwhile, Thad keeps texting Liza in an attempt to prevent her from telling Kelsey about the video. Liza keeps turning his requests to talk down, and all I can think is…beware, Liza. Nothing good can come of this! Thad, a little later, shows up at Empirical. Liza is nowhere to be found, but Kelsey is. Thad is a pretty good liar, telling Kelsey that he is trying to find Liza to talk to her about honeymoon ideas as a surprise for Kelsey. Thad is on a mission so he goes out to Brooklyn to confront Liza. Instead, he finds Caitlin who unknowingly outs Liza as her mom. The realization on Thad’s face is brilliant. For someone who comes off kind of like a dumb finance guys, his wiliness at discovering how old Liz is, is pretty great; he proves his resourcefulness when his relationship is on the line.

A bit later, Caitlin actually cares about where her mom is so she uses “Find my iPhone” on Liza’s iPad (nice product placement). She follows it to Times Square (why it was so important for her to know at that exact moment when she didn’t seem to care about it earlier…who knows). Caitlin runs into Liza scantily clad in her fur Princess Pam-Pam costume; hence, Caitlin thinks her mom’s job is being a costume character in Times Square. Liza doesn’t not outrightly correct her. Is that amazing, or what? Why Liza wouldn’t tell her what her real job is at that moment is beyond me when she was going on about telling Caitlin the truth earlier in the episode.

After the book event, Charles treats Liza to an intimate drink (his excuse: keeping Moore’s icky hands off of Liza). Charles confides in Liza that he sometimes dreams of starting over–not in publishing. Liza says, “What’s something you’ve always wanted to do? Something you couldn’t do because of your job?”. Obviously, the look in his eyes at that moment is screaming, “YOU. I want to do you!”. Luckily, that moment is saved by a threatening text from Thad. #StillTeamJosh (even if Charles has dreamy eyes)

The next morning, Liza meets up with Thad (see, you should have met up with him sooner). He is confident in his blackmail proposal. His greasy side is in full-force, telling Liza that she’s going to have to keep him happy after deleting the video and keeping quiet…in ways he will figure out later. *Shudder* For once, Liza doesn’t care if everyone knows the truth. Her friendship–and Kelsey’s welfare–is more important. I applaud you, Liza!

As she walks away, though, an INSANE thing happened that makes you gasp outloud. I may have even screamed. A piece of metal construction work falls from up above and SQUISHES THAD…assuming it’s to death. Two things: 1) Liza would have definitely gotten some nasty body pieces or blood on her and 2) how the hell did she not scream out as she saw that thing falling? Moral of the story: never walk by construction sites.

Highlights:

“I only lie about my past. Not our entire future.” (Liza) Hmm. I guess that is true? Except not really if your friends don’t know the truth, and they’re a part of your future…bad logic, Liza.

“I’m tired of skinny jeans, but you just take a breath and hang in there!” (Maggie) Never tire of skinny jeans!

“Diana is fluent in Cronish.” (Charles) Of course she is. Woman knows her shit.

“I hate keeping secrets from my friends.” (Liza) Really? Actions speak louder than words.

“It may be tiny, but at least it’s fur.” (Liza) Um, what is that costume? There is NO way she would wear that for work. Isn’t there some law against that?

“I want to see you gripping a long powerful spear.” (Edward L.L. Moore) Gross. “In fact, she might prefer that men hold their own spears!” (Liza) Great comeback!

“Liza, you look like you’ve aged 14 years.” (Thad) Clever, clever man.
