To See or Not to See: Fuller House

You got it, dude! If you haven’t heard, Fuller House has been renewed for season 2.

If you’re like me, you spent last weekend binge-watching all thirteen episodes on Netflix. And, no, you shouldn’t feel bad about it. I grew up watching Full House. Who doesn’t remember ABC’s TGIF? When I learned about the sequel, I was elated. For over a decade, the feel-good comedy taught me life lessons and reminded me of the importance of family.

Even with my excitement, I had my doubts. After you get past the nostalgia, revivals are rarely as good. And, after the first episode, my concerns were real. The show’s premiere felt cheesy and dated. The cringe-worthy episode was one iconic catchphrase after another. Thankfully, it gets better.

Fuller House picks up twenty-nine years later. D.J. is a widowed, mother of three (ring any bells?). She temporarily moves back home where Danny has been helping her with the kids. His career is more successful than ever. He’s moving to L.A. to work on a nationally syndicated talk show. But, before he does, the entire gang reunites to throw Danny a going away party. Well, not the entire gang, notably missing is Michelle. For those of you who don’t know Mary-Kate and Ashley both turned down the series because they no longer consider themselves actors. The show throws plenty of shade and it is hilarious! While chatting with her newborn, the rest of the family overhears D.J. talking about the tough day she’s having and being scared about raising her kids alone. As a result, Stephanie and Kimmy decide to move in to help—forming the She-Wolf pack. Yes, Kimmy Gibbler finally moves in!

The show’s creators were incredibly smart with their intended parallels. It brings all the feels fans were expecting. And, the chemistry between the She-Wolf pack seems more organic than the relationship between Danny, Joey, and Uncle Jesse. Trust me, that’s no easy feat! The ladies remained friends after Full House ended and you can feel that authenticity. It’s evident throughout the series. And, who wasn’t loving their dance sequences? Hello, Dancing with the Stars!

The standout of the series is Jodie Sweetin. I wasn’t the biggest fan back then but now I’m obsessed. She makes the series feel fresh and steals any scene she’s in. Her comedic timing is perfect and her heart-to-hearts remind viewers why we loved the show in the first place.

Another breakout is Elias Harger, who plays Max Fuller. He’s charismatic and vibrant, providing a lot of the show’s chuckles.

If you haven’t started Fuller House, “you’re in big trouble, mister!” Season 1 is available on Netflix.
