To See or Not to See: Captain America: Civil War

Anthony and Joseph Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, have done an absolutely fan-freaking-tastic job of directing Captain America: Civil War.  The action scenes in this movie are just jaw dropping.  The characters have depth and are given believable motivation, and the plot ties practically every Marvel movie produced in the last year into a satisfying soup of mind-blowing superhero epic-ness!

Lesser known for directing smart TV comedies such as Arrested Development and Community, the Russo brothers have since been thrust into the spotlight for their spectacular fight choreography in Captain America: The Winter Solider, and so it is no surprise that the Civil War set pieces are absolutely breathtaking; in fact, one of the main fights deserves the honor of being called the de facto best superhero action scene in cinema history.  BAR NONE.  There are twelve heroes duking it out in the biggest action set piece in Civil War, and each of them(all twelve!) knocked it out of the park! (Are you listening, DC? Not one, or two or three, but twelve!) Lets take a look at who’s in Civil War via the official posters:

If you liked any of these heroes in the previous Marvel movies, you will love them in this!  If you have ever read Marvel comic books or watched the Sunday morning Marvel cartoons as a child, you will love this too!

This isn’t to say that it’s a childrens movie though.  Captain America: Civil War is a multilayered onion of mystery, intrigue, action and suspense.  Hot off the heels of Avengers: Age of Ultron, our heroes are coming to terms with their actions in Sokovia.  Having caused massive loss of life in every fight they’ve been deployed to, the world governments want to reign in the Avengers with the Sokovia Accords.  Under the Accords, the Avengers would answer to and take orders from the UN.  Iron Man wants to sign the Accords, to keep the Avengers in check while Captain America would rather the team stay independent.  Each has their own arguments for or against the Accords, and they are all presented believably and logically.

I won’t spoil the plot details, or trivialize the story beats here.  Suffice to say, the plot is thick and dense, and although it may get confusing at times, everything pays off tenfold in the end. You’ll just have to trust me on this!  This is the best film Marvel has put out in years, and the best Avengers film in recent memory.

This is the cream of the crop, best of the best in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, folks.  Go see it!
