Shadowhunters 2B: Ten Hopes for the Next Ten Episodes

We are quite literally counting the days until Clary Fray and company grace our small screen again in Shadowhunters 2B. In the meantime, we have a list of hopes and desires of things we would like to see in the back half of the season.

*potential spoilers ahead for those who have not read the series the show is loosely based on*

1. Jace finding happiness

Poor Jace spent the entirety of the first half of the season in continuous pain, both mentally, physically, and emotionally. From being brutally tortured by Valentine and his men to unintentionally killing several downworlders by activating the Soul Sword, Jace hasn’t had a moment to breathe. The only time we saw him let loose a little was in “How Art Thou Fallen”, but mostly he was nursing a broken heart. While we know things get worse before they get better for Jace – thanks to Dominic Sherwood’s tweets – we hope he at least gets a little breather from the never ending doom and gloom. The guy deserves some TLC!

2. More Malec

This series will always benefit from more Malec. The midseason finale treated us to an incredibly tender and meaningful moment between the couple, but these moments have been proven to be few and far between. Though we have no idea why that is as they’re the healthiest and most honest romantic relationship on the show. It would be wonderful to see more of Magnus and Alec’s growing relationship, everything from the significant declarations of love to the small moments where they’re just enjoying one another’s company. Here’s hoping they add more scenes that allow us to see more of this epic love story.

3. More Climon friendship, less Climon romance

Clary and Simon’s friendship is one our favorite aspects of Shadowhunters, their romantic relationship not so much. These two work best as lifelong friends and their chemistry feels very platonic. Not to mention Clary showed zero interest in Simon romantically until he was interested in Maia. It also lives up to the tired cliche of the dorky best friend falling in love with the unattainable girl that has left him in the friend zone. Love can be reciprocated in a lot of different ways and doesn’t have to result in a forced romantic relationship. We’re optimistic that the series won’t drag out this romance too long, as it has little hope of working out in the long run.

4. More screen time for Luke

Much to our dismay, Luke has been sidelined for much of season 2 so far. Our favorite werewolf leader is one of the standout characters on the series and deserves more screen time than he’s given. We would love for the back half of the season to delve more into Luke’s story, with him having to deal with both Jocelyn’s untimely death and leading his pack. We would also like to see more of his bond with Maia, rather then having them continually being at odds with one another. If you’re going to have Isaiah Mustafa in the opening credits, then you need to treat Luke as a main character.

5. Jimon bonding

One of the best things to come out of Shadowhunters season 2 thus far is the phenomenal bonding scenes between Jace and Simon. Seeing these two fight together and work together to keep everyone safe was a nice change of pace for the characters. With Jace finding out from Valentine that he is not related to Clary, we worry the second half of the season could find these two as romantic rivals. Love triangles are overrated and tiresome, it would be far more enjoyable to see Jace and Simon work together for the betterment of everyone.

6. More of Magnus’ backstory

Magnus have lived an extravagant life that has spanned decades, which gives the writers plenty of story to tell. We would love to see how Magnus became the High Warlock of Brooklyn, as well as how he came to discover all his Warlock capabilities. We don’t think anyone would be opposed to learning more about Magnus, as he is without a doubt a fan favorite. Here’s hoping the series takes more opportunities to explore the rich history of our favorite cocktail drinking Warlock.

7. Exploring the Downworld

Aside from the welcome addition of Maia in season 2, we got to see very little of the downworlders we’ve come to know and love. As stated above, Luke has been largely absent so far and we didn’t see Meliorn again until “Bound By Blood”. Not to mention Raphael mostly dealt with an addiction to Izzy’s Shadowhunter blood and several downworlders made an appearance only to meet their demise. We hope in the next ten episodes the show strikes a balance between the Shadowworld and the Downworld, and the downworlders live long enough to see a story of their own.

8. A better storyline for Izzy

The beginning of this season saw Izzy being the strong, fearless woman we’ve all come to admire and adore. Unfortunately, latter episodes saw Izzy struggle with her addiction to yin fen, no thanks to Aldertree, and subsequently missing in action and acting out of character. Not to mention she’s embarked on quite the unhealthy relationship with Raphael, both mutually dependent on their need to satisfy their addictions. We miss our bold, fun-loving Izzy who puts her family above all others and hope she makes a triumphant return in Shadowhunters 2B.

9. More Clizzy

The first ten episodes of season 2 gave us very little Clizzy, much to our dismay. Clary and Izzy have a exceptional bond that is fascinating to watch and the show benefits greatly when these two have screen time together. It also felt a bit out of character for Clary to not recognize Izzy was struggling with addiction, although to be fair none of the people in her life seemed to notice the red flags she was sending. Hopefully the second half of the season will give us those heartfelt moments that made us appreciate just how strong and powerful Clary and Izzy are, both separately and together.

10. More scenes with the whole cast in it

While “Love Is a Devil” was an incredibly emotional episode that saw some of our favorite Shadowhunters facing their deepest insecurities, it was one of the few episodes that had most of the main characters in a scene together. Very rarely do we get to see the entire main cast in one scene together, which is a real shame as they all have such excellent chemistry with one another. Often times when we get these scenes, Luke is missing in action. Our biggest hope for these upcoming episodes is we are treated to more memorable scenes that feature the ENTIRE ensemble cast, and that includes Luke!
