To See or Not to See: Finding Dory

Let me ask you this, when you watched Finding Nemo thirteen years ago, did you ever wonder where Dory came from? I certainly didn’t, but Pixar finally gave her a back story after all these years.

Finding Dory takes places one year from the events of Finding Nemo. We are introduced to old and new characters who accompany Dory on her new adventure to find her parents. From the seven-legged octopus named Hank, Bailey the beluga whale, Destiny the whale shark, sea lions and otters having a cuddle party, I was thoroughly entertained by characters who all had their own persona. But warning, spoiler ahead. If the opening scene of Finding Dory where we experience her flashbacks didn’t make you cry, the moment where she reunited with her parents definitely did. We watched Dory suffer from short term memory loss in flashbacks as a child, where her parents Jenny and Charlie taught her how to find her way home. My heart sank the moment I thought her parents had died, never have returning to the Open Ocean exhibit. When Dory ends up back in the ocean where we see a trail of seashells, thats when the tears started flowing. A shadow of Dory’s parents appears, swimming towards Dory, and thats when the tears just couldn’t stop. Dory’s parents spent years collecting seashells and forming a trail knowing that Dory would return to them one day.

I have to be honest, before I decided to watch Finding Dory, I never watched the trailer. I didn’t know that it was going to be about Dory’s quest to reunite with her family. I’m glad I didn’t have any expectations because I loved Finding Dory and may have enjoyed it even more than Finding Nemo.

To watch or not to watch? Another successful sequel by Pixar, Finding Dory is a heartfelt animation that is definitely worth watching. But be forewarned, tissues required if you’re a sap like me who cries tears of joy.
