Pop Culturalist Chats with Sky Katz

Sky Katz is one of Hollywood’s fastest rising stars. She competed on America’s Got Talent, showcasing her incredible rap skills, and now is one of the stars of Raven’s Home on the Disney Channel. With all of her accomplishments, it’s hard to believe she’s only twelve! Pop Culturalist sat down with her to chat about her new show, upcoming music, and much more.

PC: Were you familiar with the original series before you signed on for the spinoff?
Sky: Yes, my older siblings lived for That’s So Raven when they were younger so we watched it at my house all the time!

PC: How did you get involved with the project? And what about it appealed to you?
Sky: When I found out they were auditioning kids for the show, I freaked out. It appealed to me because of how much I loved the original series. It was like my dream job!

PC: What is it like working with the original cast? Have they shared any words of wisdom?
Sky: The original cast members have taught me a ton and make me laugh just as much. I learn something new everyday from Raven and Anneliese. They give us advice about comedic acting and timing, acting techniques, and so much more.

PC: What similarities/differences do you share with your character, Tess?
Sky: Tess and I both say what’s on our minds, we love our friends, and have no fears. The only difference is that her mom isn’t so involved, but my mom and I are really close.

PC: What can fans expect from Raven’s Home?
Sky: Fans of Raven’s Home can expect to laugh and relate to every episode. So much happens on the show where viewers will say to themselves, “Omg, that would so happen to me!”

PC: What was your favorite scene or episode to film?
Sky: My favorite episode involved a huge trampoline that the crew put up on set. When the cameras weren’t rolling we would all run over and jump around like crazy together.

PC: What is it like being a part of the Disney family?
Sky: Being part of the Disney family is just as awesome as I imagined it to be. Everyone is so friendly and encouraging!

PC: How do you manage being a normal kid with juggling your career?
Sky: Playing basketball, hanging out with my childhood friends, and being at home with my family helps keep me grounded and balanced. Especially on the basketball court, no one cares if I’m on TV or a rapper.

PC: What is your dream role?
Sky: My dream role would be a movie centered around basketball. I’d also love to do a collaboration with Nicki Minaj on the soundtrack.

PC: When did you realize you wanted to pursue acting?
Sky: I’ve always wanted to act and love to do anything that involves an audience. The word “ham” has been used to describe me practically since I was born.

PC: Do you have any other upcoming projects you can chat about?
Sky: Yes! I’m working on my music right now and I’m hoping to put out some new songs very soon.
