Patrick Stewart is Back in Star Trek: Picard

After almost a decade away from the Star Trek franchise, Patrick Stewart is reprising his role as the iconic Starfleet Captain Jean-Luc Picard on CBS All-Access’ aptly named series Picard. Set eighteen years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis, Picard follows Stewart as a retired Admiral living in a vineyard with a pitfall by his side named “Number One.”

Patrick Stewart has always expressed his unwillingness to play Picard over the years, as he felt that the character story had “run its course” over the twenty-odd years in both TV and on the silver screen. It’ll be interesting to see what CBS’ Picard has in store for the character to drawn Stewart back to the role after so long.

Stewart is joined by a plethora of new faces, among them, we have former Starfleet Officer and Pilot Rios (Santiago Cabrera) and his partner Raffi (Michelle Hurd), a young woman named Dahj (Isa Briones) who, from what the trailer suggests will be the driving force of this ten-episode season.

We’ll also see the return of several cast members from the original 1987 series Star Trek: The Next Generation. Data (Brent Spiner), Riker (Jonathan Frakes), and Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) are back as well as Seven of Nine played by Jeri Ryan.

Star Trek: Picard premieres on CBS All Access on January 23rd, 2020.
