NYCC: Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency was a raucous hit at New York Comic Con this year. At the Main Stage panel, fans were treated to an exclusive first-look of episode 1 of the upcoming season 2. Let’s just say, it was everything we’d hoped for and more. All we’ll say is: scissor swords! (For some insight into season 2, take a look at when we chatted with Dirk Gently at SDCC.)

Post-screening, creator Max Landis came on stage with cast members Samuel Barnett (Dirk), Elijah Wood (Todd), Jade Eshete (Farah), Hannah Marks (Amanda), Fiona Dourif (Bart), and Mpho Kaoho (Ken).

A common refrain from the cast about the show is how integral and wonderful Max Landis is to why Dirk Gently is such a great TV show. Samuel Barnett summed it up best when he said, “It was all on the page. Max’s writing is extremely specific, and it has a real rhythm to it.” He also chatted a little bit about this upcoming season for Dirk, his character:

A few more great tidbits? Jade Eshete declared season 2 “a Farah season.” And when asked about his favorite quality of Todd’s, Elijah Wood said, “Todd is struggling with being an asshole in his past and [is] making amends with that. [Being an asshole] is one of my least favorite qualities…but, you know, under pressure that guy delivers. I love that about him.”

Catch the premiere of season 2 on October 14 on BBC America.
