Jersey Boys Star Aims To Shed Some Light On LGBT Issues

Original Jersey Boys cast member Michael Longoria is teaming up with an incredible line-up to host an event benefitting New Alternatives, an organization that provides various services such as housing for homeless LGBT youth.

Longoria will be joined by American Idol alum Constantine Maroulis, Daniel Reichard, Cameron Mitchell Bell, Marty Thomas, Christina Bianco and many others to raise money for the organization so they can continue to provide much needed services.

In addition to the performances, the event will also hold raffles where guests can win tickets to Broadway shows, a bottle of Pinot by Tituss autographed by Tituss Burgess and a Broadway recording album package.

Longoria spoke to Pop Culturalist about how he initially became involved with the event and what his expectations are:

“New Alternatives is an organization that wants to help get LGBT youth off the street and into shelter programs. But, they themselves are in turmoil. When I heard that story, we decided to get involved so they can continue to provide services to the LGBT youth that really need it,” Longoria told us. He believes the event, which takes place a few days before this year’s NYC Gay Pride Parade, will shed some much needed light after the massacre that took place in Orlando a few days ago. “Especially during Pride, we should definitely try to do something for them. They should have the courage to be who they are at this time, when there is so much against us right now.”

Longoria also hopes that this event will encourage the LGBT community and allies to come together to fight for the same cause. “It’s not just a LGBT event. It’s everyone getting together to help these kids who are in danger.”

The event will take place at 9:00 pm on Thursday, June 23rd at Hardware Bar:

697 10th Avenue
New York, NY 10036
(Between 47th & 48th Streets)

A $10 donation is suggested.

Every year, June is dedicated to celebrate LGBT Pride. One way to show support is to volunteer at organizations such as New Alternatives to provide care and assistance to those in turmoil or in unsafe environments.

If you’d like to donate to New Alternatives or are interested in volunteering, visit their website for more information.
