Pop Culturalist Attends the HealthCorps Gala

Pop Culturalist attended the HealthCorps Garden Gala on May 10. HealthCorps, founded by Dr. Mehmet Oz, works with teens to live healthy lives (both physically and mentally) through healthy eating, exercising, and positive thinking. Each year, HealthCorps holds a gala to honor someone who has done exemplary work to help the mission. This year, they honored Rachael Ray. Check out some of the top health tips from the night:

  • Dr. Mehmet Oz: ““Give your heart a reason to keep beating. You gotta be passionate about one thing. Find something you care a lot about.”
  • Lisa Oz: “Be the person you want to be. Make choices you would be proud of.”
  • Candace Kumai: “Just start. A lot of people get tripped up on all the rules, the diets and the fads and really if you just start–it could even be going for a walk every day, cutting out sugar, no more processed foods, cooking for yourself, going to yoga.
  • Rocco DiSpirito: “It’s about conscious living and conscious eating. We all have bad habits. When it comes to food, take a moment, think about it, and try to make the healthiest choice you can make. Unfortunately, living a heatlhy lifestyle in America is like social protest because it’s so hard, there are so few healthy choices. I’m trying to reverse obesity by making healthy and delicious food available to everyone.” (We also love that Rocco recently discovered Outlander.)
  • Daphne Oz: “Make health a priority, not an obsession.”
  • John Jovanovic: “Listen to your wife.”
  • Rachael Ray: “Have a sense of humor.”
Christine

Christine lives & works in New York City. She devours all things pop culture like they are astronaut ice cream (her favorite food). Shows she’s loving right now include Broad City, Nathan for You, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
