Juju Journey Brener is a rising young star to keep your eye on. This year, she stars opposite Morgan Freeman and Ruby Rose in the must-see thriller, Vanquish. The film follows a mother who is trying to put her dark past as a Russian drug courier behind her. But that’s put to a halt when a retired cop forces her to do his bidding by holding her daughter hostage.
Juju not only holds her own with these Hollywood legends, but she also steals the show!
Pop Culturalist was lucky enough to chat with Juju about Vanquish.
PC: How did you discover your passion for acting?
Juju: My grandma, mom, and sister were all actors. I wanted to become an actor when I was three. I did commercials when I was a baby. That’s how I became an actor.
PC: What is your dream role or project?
Juju: I would love to work with Steven Spielberg in the future.
PC: Tell us about Vanquish and your character in the film.
Juju: My character Lily is sick. Morgan Freeman’s character kidnaps her. Ruby [Rose] thinks that he’s going to do bad things to me. But the thing is, he’s actually taking care of me and giving me good medicine to make me feel better. But she doesn’t know that! Morgan’s character tells Ruby, “I’ll give your daughter back if you go get the bad guy.”
PC: You’ve said in a previous interview that this is your favorite role to date. Why is that?
Juju: It’s because I got to work with Morgan and Ruby. I also got to play a character who’s dealing with an illness.
PC: What was it like working with Morgan and Ruby?
Juju: It was really fun working with them. They’re super nice. I really hope that I get to work with them again. Morgan is super inspiring. His acting is amazing. He’s super calming. The same goes with Ruby. She’s super nice. I also love the director, George Gallo. He’s super funny and I really want to work with him again.
PC: How similar or different are you to Lily?
Juju: We’re really different. She’s more shy and quiet. I’m more outgoing.
