Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with Modern Family’s Jeremy Maguire

Jeremy Maguire became an instant fan favorite when he joined the cast of Modern Family back in 2015. Since then, he’s grown up in front of our eyes, bringing charisma to his breakout role. Pop Culturalist caught up with this future leading man to chat about the final season of Modern Family.

Modern Family

PC: What can you tease about Joe’s storyline heading into the eleventh season of Modern Family?
Jeremy: Joe is a kid that hears and sees everything! He can sometimes be a bratty “Mr. Know-It-All” and gets people in trouble, but he loves his family!

PC: Modern Family is your breakout show. What’s been the biggest lesson you’ve learned being a part of this cast and series?
Jeremy: It takes a lot of people to make a show. Everyone does their part to make it happen. Even if I don’t know who they are or what they do, I need to be nice and say thank you.

PC: With the show ending this season, what will you remember most about this experience?
Jeremy: I’ll remember the friends that I’ve made and the tips they’ve given me. I will also remember the bacon. [laughs] The set has the best bacon!

PC: If you could share some parting words with Joe, what would they be?
Jeremy: I would tell him to stop being such a “Smart Alec!” [laughs] And to keep being adventurous!

Career

PC: How did you discover your passion for acting?
Jeremy: I was so little when I started acting! I was only two when I went to my first audition for Home Depot, and I booked it! My next audition was for Home Goods, and then I booked that, too. I loved it! I wasn’t shy or scared, so my mom said I could keep acting as long as I loved doing it!

PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Jeremy: I’ve learned so much from my TV family, especially Rico [Rodriguez], Ed [O’Neill], and Sofia [Vergara]. Pretty much every time I work it’s with them, and I’m thankful they take time to practice lines with me. The directors Steve [Levitan] and Chris [Lloyd] helped me so much! They always tell me the great job I did or how to do some things better. I will always remember the lessons they taught me!

Pop Culturalist Speed Round

PC: Guilty pleasure TV show?
Jeremy: I love Coop and Cami Ask the World and Single Parents. Some of my friends are in those shows. Some day I hope to be on their show or one like it!

PC: Guilty pleasure movie?
Jeremy: Marvel movies! Also, I love Rampage because The Rock is awesome, and who isn’t a fan of his?! I secretly like Annie because I know the words to every song and pretty much the whole movie. I also like both Jumanjis. Aquaman is a new favorite that I’ve been watching a lot lately, too!

PC: Favorite book?
Jeremy: My favorite book is anything Greek mythology. I’m currently reading Percy Jackson, and it’s great so far. I also love all the Harry Potter books!

PC: Favorite play or musical?
Jeremy: Wicked has been my favorite, but The Lion King was so colorful and fun that I can’t pick between the two, so it’s a tie!

PC: A band or artist that fans would be surprised to learn is on your playlist?
Jeremy: Julia Michaels

PC: Hidden talent?
Jeremy: I can tell you all of the State Flag in one minute!
