Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with Lexie Lombard

From getting her start on YouTube to working with brands like Seventeen Magazine, Teen Vogue, Clean & Clear, and AwesomenessTV, Lexie Lombard has emerged as the voice of her generation. We caught up with the content creator to learn more about building her platform and we learned what advice she would give her younger self!

PC: How did you get started in content creation and hosting?
Lexie: My journey began on YouTube. After five years of consistent uploads and finishing high school, I moved to Los Angeles to grow my channel. A combination of me being in LA and having an existing audience allowed me to find hosting opportunities.

PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Lexie: My therapist! Could sound corny or concerning, but she helped me rationally believe in myself.

PC: You’ve had a lot of success already in your career. When you look back, is there a particular moment that stands out?
Lexie: One thousand percent! The moment that stands out to me is meeting my first subscriber. I was in my first or second year of high school. She ran up to me when my mom and I were at the mall. I had never met anyone who watched my videos before and putting a face to my audience gave me the drive to continue.

PC: If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be and why
Lexie: I would tell her to write to-do lists each day and pick out her outfits for the next day each night.

PC: We’re living in unprecedented times. Tell us about using your platform and creating Alone in New York City.
Lexie: Totally. For those who don’t know my YouTube channel, I created a weekly series of my quarantine called Alone in New York City because I was alone in my apartment when New York was the epicenter of COVID-19. Viewers and I were going through each week together; I was essentially a virtual pen pal to thirty thousand people for fifteen weeks. My hope is that the series ages well and can be used as a reference point for this piece of history.
