Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with Kyan Palmer & nicopop.

Songwriting duo Kyan Palmer & nicopop are killing the game. They’ve clicked since the moment they met, and have worked with artists including Little Mix, PRETTYMUCH, and Timeflies. While they’ve seen success individually, they’ve decided to release some of their joint efforts, heading into a summer 2019 EP. The first glimpse of what’s to come is their new single, “Headcase”, which is the perfect addition to any playlist. Pop Culturalist caught up with Kyan Palmer & nicopop to chat about their partnership and upcoming EP.

PC: How did you both discover your passion for music?
Kyan & nicopop: It was a mix of 50 Cent, Celine Dion, and American Idol.

PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your careers?
Kyan & nicopop: Max Martin, Black Eyed Peas, Selena Gomez, and Tame Impala.

PC: How did this partnership form?
Kyan & nicopop: Our managers at the time introduced us and we really clicked in the studio. We’re both on the same page musically and the partnership formed from there.

PC: What is your creative process like when you’re working on a new song? Is it different if you’re writing for another artist?
Kyan & nicopop: Yeah, writing for another artist is very different from writing for ourselves. When dealing with another artist, you’re typically there to create and advise their vision. When we write for ourselves, we have the opportunity to have creative freedom and make whatever we feel.

PC: Tell us about your new single, “Headcase”. What inspired the track?
Kyan & nicopop: We wrote this song about a year ago—we’ve been working on the project and waiting to put it out. It’s a fun jam that is great for summer, which is almost here!

PC: What can you tease about your upcoming EP/album? What should fans expect?
Kyan & nicopop: It’s going to be very fun and lighthearted, which is a change of pace for both of us. There will be a little something-something for everyone.

PC: What does the year hold for you two as we look ahead to the rest of 2019?
Kyan & nicopop: Lots of music from both of us together—and solo music!
