Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with goodboy noah

Based in Los Angeles by way of Toronto, goodboy noah has made it his mission to create music that not only showcases his unique mix of catchy, upbeat music and smooth vocals, but also is a source of joy for listeners. Another way he brings joy to his fans? With adorable animal drawings on TikTok. (Trust us, check them out.)

We chatted with goodboy noah about his latest single “uptight”, what his writing process is like, and how he stays inspired.

PC: How did you discover your passion for music?
goodboy noah: Well, it all started with Raffi. He had some real slappers catered to young lads. And from there, my interest in music blossomed.

PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
goodboy noah: The entire R&B genre.

PC: You’ve got a new single out now. Tell us about “uptight” and the inspiration behind the song.
goodboy noah: The inspo was thus: I was in the Galápagos Islands on a ziplining retreat. I got stuck in the middle of one of the longest and highest ziplines in the southern hemisphere. My harness was particularly tight, and I was up very high. That’s when it all hit me: uptight.

PC: You also released a western-inspired music video for the single. As you’re working on a new song, are you already picturing what you’ll do for the visual component? How did this come to fruition?
goodboy noah: We did a funny little video of me on a tricycle because I kinda used all of the music video budget on the western-themed video for “uptight,” which you should go watch right now because it’s my favorite thing I’ve ever done.

PC: Your debut EP nice just dropped. What do you hope to say as an artist with this project?
goodboy noah: Hey, I’m here to be a guy. I’m gonna stay here for a while and hopefully one day be more higher in it.

PC: If you had to select one song off of the EP that best encompasses who you are as an artist, which would it be and why?
goodboy noah: “Dumb”—because it’s what I are.

Pop Culturalist Speed Round

PC: A band or artist that fans would be surprised to learn is on your playlist?
goodboy noah: Tiny Tim.

PC: First album you bought?
goodboy noah: Raffi’s greatest hits. I was two. Still bumps though.

PC: First concert you attended?
goodboy noah: Coldplay. It’s a high I’ve been chasing ever since, but have yet to encounter.

PC: A venue on your bucket list to perform at?
goodboy noah: Ripley’s Believe It or Not in St. Augustine, FL.

PC: A must-have on the road?
goodboy noah: A phone with GPS capability, a mini-fridge, and an emergency can of Campbell’s condensed cream of mushroom soup.
