Foursome, the laugh-out-loud comedy and the longest-running YouTube Original, returns for its fourth season today. The series follows the escapades (and sex-capades) of a group of best friends as they navigate the ups and downs of high school, with one OG member being Dakota Green, played by the hilarious Rickey Thompson. Like his character, Rickey has a larger than life personality perfect for the show. Pop Culturalist had the opportunity to chat with Rickey about the upcoming season.
PC: Foursome returns today. What can fans expect and where do we find Dakota in season four?
Rickey: Oh my goodness! The fans are going to love this season—it’s my favorite season ever. We get some new characters, which is very exciting, and we have a lot of new drama. As for Dakota, he has a very big decision to make. I don’t want to spoil anything, but he does have to make a big decision and that’s all I’ll say. He also may have a little love interest, which is so different from previous seasons. This season is going to be amazing. Everyone is going to love it and I can’t wait for them to see it!
PC: What was your reaction when you learned that Dakota may be in a relationship? We know you’ve been pushing for it for a few seasons. What can you tease about it?
Rickey: I’ve been begging the writers for the last three seasons! I know Dakota is the guy that’s hooking up with all these different guys, but all his friends are in relationships. It was time for Dakota to find himself a perfect significant other. This season, they gave me my wish! I was very happy.
PC: Have you established a ship name yet?
Rickey: Not yet. We’re waiting to see what the fans have to say about that! Hopefully, they come up with a good one.
PC: What are some of the similarities between single Dakota and Dakota in a relationship?
Rickey: Single Dakota is more out there and outspoken. He still is that, but I feel like this season he’s more kind-hearted. He’s nicer. His love interest really helps him get things together.
PC: From the trailer, we see that the original Foursome comes back together, and Dakota isn’t the biggest fan of Wynn. What can you tease about that dynamic this season?
Rickey: Wynn is an old school friend who is returning. I didn’t like her because she’s the type of girl that got Andie in trouble. As Dakota, I’m very protective over my best friend, so when she returns, I’m upset. Throughout the season, they start to like each other, though. People can change.
PC: What is the dynamic like with new cast members coming in?
Rickey: It’s amazing. I love all the new characters. They joined this season and took over. It was like they’ve been on the show since season one. I was really nervous about the new characters and meeting new people, but it worked amazingly. I love these people to death. We’re all close friends and I can’t wait to see the responses to their characters.
PC: This season, the Foursome is re-living their ‘Most Epic Summer’. Which was your favorite and why?
Rickey: Hmm…I think my favorite on the list was sneaking into the strip club—I can’t wait for people to see it. It was so much fun to film! The gang sneaks into a strip club and things go down.
PC: If you could you redo something from your own summer, what would it be?
Rickey: I would go on more adventures. This summer, I chilled out. I didn’t do much. I didn’t travel. I was a couch potato. I stayed indoors and watched my Netflix, but I do wish I would have traveled more this summer.
PC: With Dakota graduating this season, what does the future hold for him? What does it mean for our Foursome?
Rickey: Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! I don’t know if I can say. He has a great opportunity coming his way and it’s one that he’s been waiting for since season one. He’s always talked about being the next big thing. This opportunity is pretty amazing for him, but it’s kind of sad for the foursome. Will he stay or will he leave? We’ll have to wait and see!
PC: If you could write a storyline for Dakota, what would it be?
Rickey: I want Dakota to be the next big thing! I want him to get this huge gig that makes him the most famous thing in the world. I want him to be the biggest star ever.
PC: Foursome is the longest running YouTube Original. Have you had a chance to reflect on that milestone? What has it meant to be a part of this series?
Rickey: It is so amazing that Foursome is the longest running YouTube Original show. It makes me so happy that fans are loving the whole Foursome story. I’m also obsessed with this story. I remember when I auditioned for Dakota, I was like, “Oh my god. I hope and pray I get this role because this role is so me.” I loved getting into the character. The cast is great, too. I’m just so happy that it’s gone on as long as it has and I hope it goes on longer. It’s been amazing.
PC: What’s the biggest lesson Dakota’s taught you?
Rickey: To never hold my tongue! He’s taught me to always say what’s on my mind, but in a respectful way. Dakota and I are very similar, yet also different. He’s a loud person who tells you how it is. I’m a loud person that will tell you how it is, but I’ll think about it first. Dakota’s taught me to be strong, do you, and hey, you’re going to kill it.
PC: When you look back at the past four seasons, is there a moment, on or off set that sticks out to you?
Rickey: We have so many great moments on and off set. I feel like every single time we wrap on the season I’m like, “Wow, we created this together. We’re such a family. We created this great project.” It makes me feel so good. Then, I get to watch it and I’m just so impressed.
PC: Last time we spoke, you were Team Jandie. Has that changed?
Rickey: Oh my goodness! Wow! I’m still Team Jandie. I love Josh and Andie so much. I wish I could have that type of relationship. Team Jandie all the way.
PC: Biggest class clown?
Rickey: I have to say me! I’m the person who likes to make everyone laugh.
PC: Who is most likely to survive The Hunger Games?
Rickey: I’m going to have to say Cameron. I feel like he knows what to do in situations like that. He’s such a manly man.
PC: Biggest flirt?
Rickey: Cameron! Cameron, for sure.
PC: Best dancer?
Rickey: Me, of course. [laughs]
PC: Most likely to become a travel blogger?
Rickey: Jenn! Jenn loves to travel. She’s always going out of the country. She does it in such a great way.
PC: Most likely to end up on Broadway?
Rickey: Oh my goodness! Honestly, I would say me. I’m this extra, loud, theatrical person.
PC: Most likely to star on their own reality show?
Rickey: I feel like all these answers are me…I’m going to say me. I feel like people would love my reality show.
