Exclusive Interview: Pop Culturalist Chats with Cousins for Life’s Scarlet Spencer

Scarlet Spencer is one of Hollywood’s most exciting young actresses. From an early age, she knew she wanted to pursue a career in the industry, but she could have never imagined she’d be leading her first television series at the age of eleven. Currently, she can be seen on Nickelodeon’s new family sitcom, Cousins for Life , where she plays Ivy, a confident girl who’s looking to change the world. Together with her cousin, Stuart (Dallas Dupree Young), the pair goes on incredible adventures and they learn they’re best when they’re together. Pop Culturalist had the chance to speak with Scarlet about the show!

PC: Tell us about your character.
Scarlet: Ivy is an activist. She wants to make the world a better place, but sometimes her cousin, Stuart, ruins her plans. In the end, they always fix it together.

PC: What drew you to this project?
Scarlet: When I learned that I could be a lead for this one, I automatically wanted to be in it. I love Ivy’s character and her personality.

PC: Like you said, this is your first role as a lead. What’s been the most surprising part about the experience?
Scarlet: The most surprising part about the experience would probably have to be how well our cast gets along. We’re like an actual family.

PC: What similarities or differences do you share with your character?
Scarlet: We both want to make the world a better place. I’m just doing it in a different way than Ivy. She might be doing it a little better than me, too. [laughs] She also has better clothes.

PC: What would you say is the biggest lesson that Ivy and Stuart learn from each other?
Scarlet: Ivy and Stuart are such opposites and yet, when they come together they can do amazing things.

PC: What is it like being a part of the Nickelodeon family so early in your career?
Scarlet: It’s amazing. I didn’t think I would be here, honestly, but I am so grateful that I am, and so shocked. This has just all been amazing.

PC: As you look forward in your career, is there a dream role that you would love to play?
Scarlet: I really want to play a superhero. That’s always been one of my dreams.

PC: What are you most excited for your fans to see in this first season?
Scarlet: In the first season, I get to live out one of my lifelong dreams: playing a superhero!

PC: If you could write a storyline for Ivy, what would it be and why?
Scarlet: I want to do a daddy-daughter dance episode with Ron G. I feel like that would be super entertaining and so much fun.
