Caylee Blosenski is one of the breakout stars of 2022. This March, she made her feature film debut in Disney+’s Cheaper by the Dozen. The must-see family comedy follows the blended Baker family as they navigate a hectic home life while managing the family’s business. Caylee shines as the sarcastic and quick-witted Harley, one of the ten Baker kids. Pop Culturalist was lucky enough to speak with Caylee about the project and her career.
PC: How did you discover your passion for acting and storytelling?
Caylee: There was always something so special about acting to me. It definitely all started when I was a kid. I grew up doing a lot of theatrical things and church plays. There was definitely that connection.
PC: Who or what has had the biggest influence on your career?
Caylee: All of my loved ones. My family has always had my back during hard times. They encouraged me to follow my dreams no matter what happened in my life.
PC: You’re one of the stars of Disney+’s Cheaper by the Dozen. Tell us about the film and your character.
Caylee: The film is a comedy about a huge family. It shows the struggles and obstacles they face in balancing their family and their business.
My character, Harley Baker, is super sarcastic. She’s not afraid to speak her mind, which I do feel like I relate to in a way. It gets me and Harley into some trouble.
PC: Did you feel any pressure heading into this project, just given how beloved this franchise is?
Caylee: Everything was so new to me. I had so much to learn on and off set. I had so much help from the cast and crew. They were so patient and made me feel beyond welcome every single morning.
PC: How did you celebrate the news when you learned that you landed the role? How are you planning on celebrating on Friday when the film drops?
Caylee: Oh my gosh. When I found out, I didn’t speak for five minutes. [laughs] I was shocked. This has always been a dream of mine. It has always been a dream of mine to be on Disney. It’s something that I will always remember, and I am beyond grateful.
I’m celebrating with my family and friends. We’re going to watch it all together. It’s going to be awesome.
PC: There’s great chemistry that comes off the screen between the entire cast. How did you all build that bond? Do you have a favorite on-set or off-set moment?
Caylee: The cast is amazingly talented. They’re like my second family. We still talk every single day. They’re such amazing people.
There were so many funny moments on set. There were too many to count. I remember in between takes during a car scene, we would bump music and we’d all start dancing in the car. It was super fun.
PC: This is one of your biggest roles to date. Did anything surprise you about the experience? What was the biggest takeaway for you?
Caylee: This was a huge learning experience for me. I learned so many new things that I didn’t know before. I had so much help from so many amazing people. When I first came to set, I was shocked with how fast they built things. They built one of our houses on set super-duper quick. It’s unbelievable how much hard work and effort everyone put into making this project.
PC: You’re sharing the scene with legends like Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union. Did they share any words of wisdom with you?
Caylee: I am beyond grateful for Zach and Gab’s patience, the hard work they put into this, and the leadership they brought. They definitely gave me a lot of advice about life and my lines. Zach is such a funny guy. He made the cast feel uplifted and had so many little jokes. Gab is the sweetest. She’s like my other mom.
PC: What do you hope audiences take away after they see the film?
Caylee: I hope they take away that families can come in all shapes and sizes and how it’s important to lean on your family when you have obstacles in your life and to embrace your differences and be yourself!
PC: Guilty pleasure movie?
Caylee: I love anything horror. If you put a horror film in my face, I will watch it about 50 times.
PC: Favorite play or musical?
Caylee: Hamilton.
PC: A band or artist that fans would be surprised to learn is on your playlist?
Caylee: I listen to a lot of oldies like Bee Gees.
PC: Dream role?
Caylee: Anything in a horror film!
