Book Review: Bad Luck Bridesmaid by Alison Rose Greenberg

Bad Luck Bridesmaid by Alison Rose Greenberg follows protagonist Zoey Marks who is a cursed bridesmaid that no engagement can survive. It’s been ten years and none of the brides have walked down the aisle. Zoey becomes skeptical of the idea of marriage and rejects her boyfriend-Rylan Harper III’s proposal and in the process of rejecting him, she leaves both of them brokenhearted.

Zoey’s best friend Hannah Green declares that she’s getting married in Ireland and Zoey must step in. She’s asked to be the bridesmaid and Rylan will be attending as well. This time Zoey’s determined to win Rylan back and get Hannah down the aisle to break her curse. But, as the weekend goes on, Zoey is starting to realize that the path she thought was right, might not be the one for her.

Highlights

  • The premise of the book made it seemed like it would just be a lighthearted rom-com. When the failed marriages keep happening, Zoey starts to wonder if maybe she’s the problem.
  • Zoey stays true to herself.
  • Zoey thinks she has to pick between being a free-spirit or being married.
  • I loved it when Zoey’s best friend Hannah showed up!

Lowlights

  • Zoey’s indecisiveness. This can also come across as Zoey being selfish.
  • Zoey rejecting Rylan’s proposal in the beginning.
  • The cheating trope is in this book and there’s no remorse shown.

Final Thoughts: Overall, this was a fast-paced romance book about a twenty-something-year-old woman trying to break her bad luck curse. There were moments when I thought Zoey was acting immature. I also wasn’t a fan of the cheating trope. I loved reading more about Hannah than Zoey. This is perfect for anyone who’s in a reading slump.
