Ah, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Did I add the season 2 premiere (all episodes are up on Netflix as of April 15th) on my calendar and look forward to its arrival with great anticipation?
Yes, I did. You bet your sweet self I did.
For those who have been living in a cave (or possibly been trapped in a bunker with a crazy person), Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt tells the story of Kimmy Schmidt (played by Ellie Kemper), who was recently rescued from a bunker where she’d been held for 15 years. Sounds bleak, right? It’s not. It’s a brightly colored candy confection of a show from the amazingly quick minds of Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. Despite Kimmy’s setbacks in life, she’s determined to make the best of it.
I’ve compiled the best moments from season one below. For those who’ve already watched season one, congratulations because you are about to go on a wonderful memory journey. For those who haven’t, I’m so excited for you because you get to experience the whole thing for the first time!
1. “Peeno Noir”
Need I say more? Note that this is NSFW (or at least the beginning part is). Titus (as played by Tituss Burgess) films a music video in episode 6.
2. When Titus goes to a “straight coach”
I laughed so much while watching episode 10 because of this storyline. Titus needs to learn to “act straight” to score a role. He starts training with the mysterious Le Loup. Hilarity ensues. I couldn’t find any clips of this online but if you’ve got Netflix, watch this episode.
3. When Titus realizes that being a werewolf is easier than being a black man in America
Not only was this storyline from episode 8 funny, it was great, incisive commentary on racism in America.
4. When Kimmy has to attend a fancy party and goes in a curtain
In episode 7, Titus performs fairy godmother duties by creating a fancy party outfit for Kimmy out of random things found in their shared apartment.
5. The opening credit song
I think this basically speaks for itself.
