5 Fun Facts with Mason Coutinho

It’s been a whirlwind few years for Mason Coutinho. The rising singer-songwriter from down under has gone from internet sensation to bona fide artist. In 2016, he started posting covers on Instagram and Musical.ly. Since then, he’s accumulated over 100,000+ followers across both platforms, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down. He’s been hard at work recording his EP, Magnetic, which was released this March. It’s an impressive artistic statement featuring the infectious hit, “Counting Down to You”. Pop Culturalist sat down with Mason to learn five interesting facts that we’re sure will surprise you!

1. Mason loves playing basketball.
“I started playing basketball when I was eight years old. I played for school, domestic, and rep teams, which kept my mum very busy. In Australia, we have a half court in our backyard, so my brothers and I play basketball every single night when I’m home.”

2. Mason lives in a home with twelve people!
“For the past few years, I have lived with my three brothers, sister, mum, dad, grandma, grandpa, and three international guests from Miami, Brooklyn, and Mexico. Every night, we have a big family dinner, and we always travel everywhere as a big pack.”

3. Mason has been to over 60 countries.
“I’ve been lucky enough to travel all around the world with my family. I’ve made great friends from many countries and experienced many different cultures.”

4. Mason plays the guitar.
“My older brother, Jack, has been teaching me guitar for the past year. It adds great depth to my performance, and allows me to control my beat. I’m also learning to play the piano with my brother Billy off YouTube tutorials.”

5. Mason loves dancing with his younger brother Jules.
“Jules and I love free styling and we grew up entertaining everyone in our family. We watched my sister, Brooke, for many years perform on stage and it was natural for us to want to do the same. We love dancing on stage and making people happy.”
